Laughter
My friend Jon is visiting from London who loves Scuba diving, golf, tennis, and driving fast cars. I too love a variety of sports. We were watching some friends play tennis and spontaneously decided to hit a few tennis balls. Neither of us had played tennis for some weeks. We borrowed some rackets that were a bit to heavy for us and gave it a go. We only hit for 30 minutes but the laughter that emanated from us was pure silliness. I couldn’t help but giggle when he hit the ball over the wall or way up in the sky. He too was laughing. We were laughing at one another and at ourselves. It was a great reminder of the importance of laughter. Laughing helps reduce stress, helps to put things in proper perspective, helps me remember not to take anything to seriously, and helps me stay in touch with my childlike nature. Laughter makes me more interesting to be around. It lightens me up and creates a sense of ease for others. I love being around people who laugh often. They seem to digest life experiences a bit more easily. Before walking off the court, we agreed to play again but this time with our own rackets. Laughter is within us all. Where can you interject some laughter into your day? It is food for the soul.
